How are we Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in Sport?

The Synergy Hair Netball League is an important development pathway for young sportswomen. We believe that when young athletes are supported and empowered to reach their full potential, they can achieve incredible things both on and off the court. By promoting self-confidence “Look Good, Feel Good, Play Good”, we’re helping to shape a brighter future for sports in New Zealand and inspiring young women to pursue their dreams with passion and determination.

We sat down with up-and-comer Teuila Sotutu to discuss her journey. Here’s what she had to say:

What inspired you to get into netball?
When I was younger my mum put me in every sport you can think of and netball was the one I was good at!

How many years have you been playing in the National League?
3 years.

What drives you to move to the next level?
My biggest goal is to play professionally so that keeps me going.

What do you love about the sport?
I love that I’ve made heaps of friends and that we have fun while we are playing, and it keeps me active.

Why is it important to inspire the next generation of women to get into sport?
I think it’s important because it can give you many life lessons or skills for the future like decision making and leadership.

What has been your biggest challenge in getting to where you are in the sport?
My biggest challenge would be balancing my job with netball trainings. Sometimes we finish late and I have to get up at 5am the next morning, go straight to work. It can be tiring but it’s all worth it in the bigger picture.

How does confidence affect your performance?
I know when I’m looking my best I’ll feel confident when I’m playing. If I’m not feeling confident then I’ll be overthinking everything I’m doing and obviously I won’t be playing my best.

We’re committed to supporting emerging talent and fostering a culture of excellence in sport, and we look forward to continuing to inspire the next generation of female athletes to reach for the stars.
