Q. What does a texturising product do?
A texturising product creates separation in the hair to give you a messy, piece-y look without weighing the hair down. Texture sprays can also add lift and volume, achieving a more defined and full-bodied finish.
Q. Is texturising spray the same thing as dry shampoo?
Not quite. While they do share similar properties and can both add volume, dry shampoo is mostly used to absorb oil and refresh the scalp between washes. A texturising spray is great for enhancing body and movement.
Q. Who should use a texturising styling product?
Texturising products are great for all hair types. They’re especially helpful for people with fine or flat hair who want more volume and fullness. But even those with thick, curly, or straight hair can use them to create structure, define layers, or add grip for braids and updos. If you find your hair tends to slip out of styles or fall flat quickly, a good texturiser is a great option.
Q. Is a texturising spray or cream better?
Sprays are more lightweight and ideal for adding root lift, volume, and a soft feel – perfect for fine or limp hair. Creams are thicker and best for creating separation, taming frizz, and defining shorter or layered styles. You might find that a combination of both works well for you – using spray for volume, and cream or paste for finishing touches.
Q. How do I use texturising powder or paste?
For texturising powder, apply a small amount to the roots of dry hair where you want lift or texture. Gently massage it in with your fingers to activate the grip and create volume. It gives a matte finish and works well for creating tousled or “bedhead” looks.
For texturising paste, warm a small amount between your palms before applying it to dry or towel-dried hair. Focus on mid-lengths and ends to add piecey definition and hold. It’s great for sculpting styles, smoothing flyaways, or adding structure without stiffness. Start small—a little goes a long way.
